The recent developments in the field of AI have been incredibly exciting. They are already starting to have implications across the way we live and work, but we believe this is just the beginning. With the field progressing at such a rapid rate, it can be difficult to parse through all the noise.

One common thread we have seen in the market is the desire from companies to use AI to build platform assistants that help end-users more efficiently achieve their goals. Many people refer to these assistants as copilots. However, since industry-standard terminology has yet to be solidified, it is important to set a clear definition of what a copilot is.

We believe a copilot should act as a personal assistant that allows users to interact with a software platform through natural language. This means the copilot should be able to do anything a user can do on the platform (and often more) ten times faster.

While the capabilities of LLMs are impressive, they cannot become functional copilots on their own.  At Layer, we are building a highly interoperable framework that enables rapid testing of different solutions for building copilots, with the driving goal to make the process as easy as possible for developers.

We’re thrilled about this next chapter for Layer and we’re looking for exceptional builders and thinkers to join us on our journey. We’re currently hiring across engineering roles and can’t wait to meet you!
